US$475M project delivers estimated 30 minutes of time savings and expanded transit service.
Customers can now enjoy new and more reliable travel options along the 395 corridor as the 8 mile (13 kilometre) extension of the 95 Express Lanes to Washington DC is now open. The 395 Express Lanes is another project delivered on schedule and on budget in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The 395 Express Lanes opens as Northern Virginia is poised to welcome Amazon’s HQ2 to the corridor, and comes in response to the growing congestion customers face along the last miles into DC.
The project also includes:
- US$15 million of annual funding from toll revenues to improve transit services in the 395/95 corridor. This year’s investment is providing new and expanded bus service that will move an additional 700 people through the corridor every day and save close to 89,000 hours of travel delay each year.
- Circulation improvements opened in June at the Pentagon where we were able to improve bus and commuter access at one of the area’s largest transit centres.
- Ongoing rehabilitation of bridges, improvements to drainage, installation of sound walls and the widening of a sound bound chokepoint on the regular lanes.
We are pleased to provide a safer, faster option for customers on the new lanes and continue work alongside communities as additional construction is completed in the corridor.
