Two travel time signs that were piloted at locations before entrances to CityLink in Melbourne gave drivers more information to help them choose whether using the toll road was the best choice for them.
The signs were trialled as a pilot at two key decision points before entering CityLink, including towards Melbourne Airport, and compared live travel times on CityLink to an alternative route so drivers could make informed decisions while on the move.
The signs were located at the following spots:
- Outbound / towards the airport: prior to the Flemington Road entry onto CityLink
- Inbound / towards the city: on the Tullamarine Freeway at English Street
The pilot has now concluded, and the feedback from drivers was very positive, with customers telling us they found the information on the signs valuable when deciding whether or not to take CityLink or the alternative route on the spot, or when planning future trips.
We’re now assessing the customer feedback and looking at technical options for more permanent options in the future.
The pilot supports other travel choice tools such as the Trip Compare tool, which drivers can use to plan their journey in advance.
