Thousands of students, teachers, and parents around Victoria will today head to Maryborough for the Energy Breakthrough event this weekend.

Now in its 28th year, the Energy Breakthrough is a competition for primary and secondary students to design, build and race human and/or fuel-powered vehicles, encouraging the next generation of transport innovators.

Schools are judged on design and construction, display and presentation, and a time trial.

Tens of thousands of students have participated in the event since it first started with 206 student back in 1991. Today around 4,000 students are involved, with females making up 47 per cent of all participants.

Transurban is sponsor of the 2019 Energy Breakthrough, and we've provided mentors to schools across the state.

On Monday, our Road Safety Manager Liz Waller visited Moreland Primary School to teach their team about road safety.

The students learnt about how to keep themselves and others safe while racing, which could help give Moreland Primary School students an edge they need to win the competition, with safety a key component of all areas of assessment.

If you’re at the event, make sure you stop past the Transurban Expo, held on-site on Saturday 23 November with free entry. More info www.eb.org.au
