Our journey to keep the littlest of passengers safe extends to our Express Lanes in the US, where motor vehicle injuries are a leading cause of death among children according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
But injuries could be reduced by 80% by buckling children in age and size-appropriate car seats, booster seats, and seat belts.
So, our North American team worked together with Safe Kids Worldwide Fairfax County, State Farm insurance agents and local police for a free Child Passenger Safety Check event along the 95 Express Lanes corridor in Virginia.
Children were fitted by certified child passenger safety technicians and families in need of a car seat were able to drive away with a new one after we donated 100 car seats—ensuring the children in the communities we serve are safe and secure for every trip.
“Working together to improve road safety strengthens the communities we serve, which is core to Transurban’s mission,” said Transurban’s Senior Vice President Virginia Market and Operations Amanda Baxter.
“By collaborating with community partners like Safe Kids Fairfax County and State Farm Agent Kenya Knight, we can support our neighbours with resources to protect children on the road.”
