The West Gate Tunnel is an electronically tolled motorway. Tolling helps balance traffic across the freeway network and helps fund the tunnel’s construction and ongoing operation. There are four toll points. Toll charging and prices vary depending on what type of vehicle you’re driving.
Heavy and long vehicles pay a single total toll when travelling on the upgraded West Gate Freeway, new tunnels and city connections. Cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles pay tolls when using the motorway's tunnels and city connections.

Toll points
Toll point on the upgraded West Gate Freeway
The toll point on the upgraded West Gate Freeway is between Millers and Williamstown roads.
- Cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles (LCVs)
Cars, motorcycles and LCVs aren't charged tolls at this point: travel on the upgraded West Gate Freeway is free for these vehicles. - Heavy vehicles
Tolls apply for both heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs), including rigid and articulated trucks and buses; and long heavy commercial vehicles (Long HCVs) (trucks 26m or longer) travelling on the upgraded West Gate Freeway. The new Long HCV vehicle class also applies to trucks travelling on CityLink.
Other toll points
Cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles pay tolls at the following toll points:
- the Hyde Street ramps
- in the tunnel
- AM peak toll point.
What's the AM peak toll point?
On the new ramp connecting the tunnel to the city, cars, motorbikes, and light commercial vehicles are charged an additional toll on weekdays between 7am and 9am. This is to help balance the amount of cars on streets in north and west Melbourne at the busiest time of the day.
